The Ball Valve has its name due to its shutter being in a spherical shape where the fluid passes when it's totally open and lined up with the tube. When closed, its hole is perpendicular to the direction of the flow, blocking the passage.
It is the best option when a fast blockage and opening is needed, due to its agility of operation. It has a great no-leak property, even in high pressure and has a negligible load loss. It is not recommended for flow control services, due to the spherical form of its shutter.
They are fabricated according to the BS 5351 specifications and are tested in accordance with BS 6755/API 598. The construction is of total or reduced passage type. All of the valves are operated by a lever, and gear operators are supplied on request.
